Transcendence and Phenomenology

Dear Sir or Madam,

I write to inform you that the Centre of Theology and Philosophy, at the University of Nottingham is holding an international conference on the 1st and 2nd of September, the title of it being—‘Transcendence and Phenomenology’. We hope to, first of all, present the resistance phenomenology offers to scientistic reductionism— especially in the work of Husserl and Merleau-Ponty. Secondly, we are also interested in papers that examine the question of transcendence in the work of Michel Henry, Jean-Luc Marion, Jean-Louis Chr*tien, Stanislas Breton, Jean-Yves Lacoste, and others.

Those speaking at the conference include Anthony Steinbock, Jean-Yves Lacoste, Jean Greisch, Jean-Luc Marion, Richard Kearney, John Milbank, Jeff Bloechl, Rudi Visker, Ruud Welten, Ben Vedder, Natalie Depraz, Emmanuel Falque and Dermot Moran.

We are hoping that the participants in the conference will extend beyond the West, so we hope that some of our fellow philosophers from the East would be able to attend and contribute.

Please do not hesitate to contact me further, and please also pass this information on to any of your colleagues for whom it would be of interest.

Thank you.

There will of course be an official 'call for papers' next month, but I wanted to let you know beforehand.

It may also be of interest to note, that proceedings of the conference will be published the following year in a book volume.

Best wishes,

Conor Cunningham
